Internship Programme

Location: Dakar, Senegal

Conpensation: 250 000 CFA per month

Position Overview

The intern will support the three departments in charge of Operations, Projects, and Research, at AfriCatalyst, gaining hands-on experience in administrative, logistical, project coordination, and research tasks. The intern will serve in these departments based on organizational needs, ensuring adaptability and exposure to diverse functions.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities

1. Operations Support 

  • Provide administrative and logistical support, including scheduling meetings, managing correspondence, and maintaining digital/physical filing systems.
  • Assist in procurement and inventory management (office supplies, equipment tracking).
  • Coordinate logistics for events, workshops, and travel arrangements.
  • Support documentation and archiving of operational records.
  • Assist in drafting internal memos, reports, and presentations.

2. Projects Support

  • Participate in project planning, coordination, and monitoring (tracking timelines, milestones, and deliverables).
  • Assist in preparing project documentation (proposals, reports, presentations).
  • Contribute to risk management by supporting the development of mitigation plans.
  • Take meeting notes and follow up on action items.
  • Help organize stakeholder engagements and project-related events.

3. Research Support 

  • Conduct desk research on key areas of focus, including development and climate finance, and policy.
  • Collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Draft research notes from reports, academic papers, and policy documents.
  • Contribute to research outputs (policy briefs, reports, presentations etc.).
  • Assist in compiling and maintaining research databases and knowledge repositories

 

Supervision and Collaboration

  • The intern will report to:
    • Operations Manager for administrative/logistical tasks
    • Project Manager for project and research related activities

 

Expected Outcomes

By the end of the internship, the intern will have:

  • Gained cross-functional experience in operations, project management, and research.
  • Developed skills in coordination, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Contributed to documented processes, research outputs, or project deliverables.
  • Built a professional network within AfriCatalyst and partner organizations.

 

Duration

  • Initial duration: 3 months
  • Tasks may shift between departments weekly or biweekly, depending on workload and priorities.

 

Qualifications and skills

  • Fluency in English and French
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in economics, international development, finance, or related fields.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic data analysis tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
