Research Coordinator, AfriCatalyst Institute for Sustainable Development

Position Overview

Scheduled to launch in Fall 2026, the AfriCatalyst Institute for Sustainable Development (ACI-SD) is a Pan-African center of excellence with the mission to help prepare a new generation of African policymakers through capacity development, policy-oriented research, and peer learning. Its modern facilities, set up in Dakar, will help train thousands of African leaders, while offering a platform for development actors to engage in peer-learning and foundational thinking on issues facing Africa.

As a training institute and research center, the Institute promotes peer learning, supports evidence-based policymaking, and contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 

Position Description

The Research Coordinator will play a central role in shaping and delivering ACI’s research and analytical agenda. The position combines rigorous economic analysis, policy-oriented research, and strategic insight generation to support high-level decision-making across African economies.

The role contributes to the design and execution of flagship research programs, supports advisory and policy dialogue engagements, and ensures strong integration between research, training, and peer learning.

 

Key Responsibilities

Research Strategy and Program Development

  • Lead the design and continuous development of the Institute’s research agenda, in close collaboration with the Director and Steering Committee
  • Translate strategic priorities into structured research programs, thematic workstreams, and actionable plans

Research Coordination and Program Management

  • Coordinate the implementation of all research-related activities, including research programs, fellowships, peer-learning initiatives, and seminars
  • Ensure timely delivery, quality control, and alignment of research outputs with institutional objectives
  • Oversee planning, timelines, and coordination across internal teams and external contributors

Research Implementation and Analytical Contributions

  • Lead and contribute to research conducted under ACI-led programs and collaborative initiatives
  • Produce high-quality analytical outputs, including research articles, reports, policy briefs, and other knowledge products
  • Support and coordinate the work of research consultants and fellows, ensuring alignment with program objectives and quality standards
  • Provide technical guidance, review outputs, and facilitate collaboration across contributors

Integration of Research and Training

  • Work closely with the Training and Capacity Building Coordinator to align research activities with training and capacity-building programs
  • Co-design and support peer-learning activities, ensuring strong integration between knowledge production and dissemination

Business Development and Positioning

  • Contribute to the development of project proposals, concept notes, and strategic documents in collaboration with the Business Development team
  • Draft and manage calls for applications for research programs, fellowships, and related initiatives
  • Support the visibility and positioning of the Institute’s research programs

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Public Policy, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in economic research, policy analysis, or advisory
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including experience with econometric analysis and data tools (e.g., Stata, EViews, R, Python)
  • Excellent writing skills, with demonstrated ability to produce policy-oriented outputs
  • Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams and deliver under tight deadlines
  • Fluency in English and French

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Economics or related field
  • Experience engaging with government institutions, international organizations, or development partners
  • Experience in macroeconomics, finance, public financial management, or climate finance
  • Demonstrated ability to translate research into policy advice and practical recommendations
