About the AfriCatalyst Institute for Sustainable Development (ACI-SD)

Scheduled to launch in Fall 2026, the AfriCatalyst Institute for Sustainable Development (ACI-SD) is a Pan-African center of excellence with the mission to help prepare a new generation of African policymakers through capacity development, policy-oriented research, and peer learning. Its modern facilities, set up in Dakar, will help train thousands of African leaders, while offering a platform for development actors to engage in peer-learning and foundational thinking on issues facing Africa.

As a training institute and research center, the Institute promotes peer learning, supports evidence-based policymaking, and contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 

Position Description

The Training and Capacity Building Coordinator will play a central role in shaping and delivering the Institute’s training and capacity-building portfolio. This position combines strategic program design, stakeholder engagement, and operational execution to deliver high-impact learning experiences for public sector leaders and professionals across Africa.

Working closely with the Director, the Steering Committee, and a network of international experts, the Coordinator will ensure that all training programs are policy-relevant, intellectually rigorous, and aligned with the Institute’s strategic priorities. The role requires an innovative, results-driven professional with excellent organizational skills and the ability to operate in a multicultural, international environment

 

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Development and Design

  • Lead the design and continuous evolution of the Institute’s training portfolio in alignment with strategic priorities and emerging policy needs
  • Develop and structure high-quality curricula, ensuring strong analytical rigor and practical relevance, in collaboration with the Director and Steering Committee
  • Advise the Director and Steering Committee on strategic priorities

Training Delivery and Coordination

  • Oversee the end-to-end delivery of training programs, including planning, logistics, quality assurance, and participation experience.
  • Recruit and manage a network of international experts, trainers, and facilitators in collaboration with relevant AfriCatalyst departments
  • Design and manage competitive selection processes for participants
  • Ensure high-quality delivery and measurable impact of training programs, including participant outcomes and satisfaction
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess training effectiveness, participant satisfaction, and learning outcomes

Knowledge Management and Peer Learning

  • Work closely with the Research Coordinator to integrate research outputs into training content
  • Co-design and support peer-learning activities, in collaboration with the Research Coordinator
  • Contribute to internal ACI-led projects, in collaboration with the Research Coordinator.

Business Development and Positioning

  • Contribute to the development of project proposals and funding opportunities, in coordination with AfriCatalyst’s Business Development team
  • Lead the preparation and dissemination of training-related communications, including calls for applications
  • Support the visibility and positioning of the Institute’s training program

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Public Policy, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in public policy, capacity building, and related fields
  • Strong analytical, writing, and program design skills
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and multiple stakeholders
  • Fluency in English and French

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Economics or a related field
  • Experience designing or managing high-level training programs in international or policy contexts
  • Experience working with government institutions or public sector stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate in learning and capacity-building approaches
